Pre Album Release Reviews
1st Review: "Romantic Hollywood Love Songs" In the world of classical orchestral scores, Munro DeJohn’s "Romantic Hollywood Love Songs" stands out as a heartfelt homage to the timeless melodies of Hollywood. At its core, this 10-track collection weaves a delicate tapestry of emotion, memory, and cinematic magic. The album’s spectrum is vast, encompassing the golden years of Hollywood through to more recent iconic tunes. The careful selection and curation of tracks ensure an emotional journey for the listener, taking them through an elegant rollercoaster of love, longing, and nostalgia. The grandeur of Hollywood and its undying charm are captured beautifully. Listeners are treated to a rich palate of instruments. From the tender notes of solo piano to the sweeping strings of the violin, viola, and cello, each instrument tells its own story. The addition of a choir in a few tracks adds depth, making the experience all the more ethereal. Standout tracks such as "My Own True Love," "The Rainbow Connection," and the evergreen "Over The Rainbow," showcase DeJohn’s skill in re-imagining and arranging these beloved scores. His personal touch is evident throughout, yet the original essence of each track remains intact. Special mention must be made of the hauntingly beautiful "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, which evokes a dreamy nostalgia. The sprightly tune of "Rainbow Connection" from the Muppet Movie, on the other hand, will leave one with a joyous skip in their step. With "Romantic Hollywood Love Songs," DeJohn has not just created an album; he has penned a love letter to Hollywood, celebrating its profound impact on our collective memory and emotions. It is a testament to the power of music in films and an acknowledgment of the indelible mark they leave on our hearts. This is not just an album for cinephiles or music aficionados but for anyone who has ever been touched by the magic of Hollywood. In conclusion, this is an album that beckons listeners to dim the lights, close their eyes, and travel through the annals of Hollywood history, one beautiful note at a time. Highly recommended.

Thank you to SPITFIRE AUDIO and BRIDGERTON's composer Kris Bowers for this opportunity and hosting the event! Best wishes to all of the talented people in the Spitfire composing community that have entered the competition. My composing Notes about BRIDGERTON When I first watched the clip to compose, (episode 5 season One) It was very compelling to watch. Up to this point I had only seen the first three episodes. I needed to go back and study the storyline better, fill in the gaps and drama leading up to this point, in order to write music fitting to the scenes and characters before I could start writing. I had Questions? What lead up to the un-assuredness of Daphne's smile in the first scene, her expression didn't seem to be overjoyed regarding her engagement? Who was Mrs. Whistledown and the effect of her tabloid, and the mother and daughter in the carriage, were they friends or snickering adversaries to the future bride? In writing and performing the music I kept great attention to the movement of each scene, actors facial expressions-moods, and not to overpower the dialogue. I used a lot of tempo changes and phrasing to follow the movement in each scene and propel things forward with each cue. In the last scene with the Bridgerton girls walking down the staircase I wanted the music to make you feel the anticipation of more to come. “To be Continued." I chose to write a string score which was consistent with the style of the show, but also felt it fit my interpretation to support the storyline and the characters. I can now say I have watched all episodes of seasons one and two! Great storytelling of the writers of the show, directing and actors are excellent and believable, costume and set design amazing! I understand why this is such a highly rated Netflix show and has so many fans! To quote the QUEEN, "ONLY the BEST"! This was very challenging, hope you enjoy it! Again, Best wishes to everyone!
